HARTING S 450 Plus Connectors

HARTING’s Han® S 450 Plus connector portfolio addresses the needs for higher current capabilities needed in North America’s battery energy storage systems (BESS) market (Video 1). These new connectors exceed the capabilities of traditional BESS connectors in the market with increased mating cycles, larger wire capability, and expanded voltage and amperage ratings. Applications include battery module connections, mobile machinery, data centers, and mobile BESS applications.

The portfolio features a right-angle plug paired with a bulkhead receptacle (Figure 1). Connectors are available in four standard color options: orange, red, black, and blue. Keyway coding rings help prevent mis-mating between the single-pole connectors. HARTING can also accommodate additional color and keyway configurations for volume production orders.

High-vibration environments or applications requiring enhanced ingress protection benefit from the integrated locking lever options. The standard locking lever can be opened manually by an operator, while the UP locking lever requires a general-purpose flathead screwdriver to decouple the connector plug. The mated connector pair meets IEC 61373-2010 Cat 1, Class B standards for vibration and shock resistance and achieves IP67/IP69K ingress protection ratings.

The right-angle plugs are supplied with contacts compatible with wire sizes from 95 mm² to 150 mm², including 4/0 AWG cable. Bulkhead receptacles are available with screw terminals, busbar connections, or transfer pins. Accessories include protection caps, glands, and tooling designed to meet a variety of market standards and needs for field use.
