See You at OpenSauce 2026: Robots, Soldering, and Really Cool Hardware

OpenSauce is one of my favorite events of the year.
If you've never been, imagine hundreds of creators, engineers, makers, and builders all gathered in one place to show off the projects they've been obsessing over for months. You'll find everything from homemade robots and experimental electronics to wildly creative hardware projects that make you stop and say, "Wait... how did they build that?" OpenSauce describes itself as a festival for people who make things, and that's exactly what it feels like.
This year, DigiKey will be back at OpenSauce with a booth built around one simple idea: hands-on exploration.
We don't want you standing on the other side of a table watching a demo. We want you to check out robots, try out new hardware, ask questions, and discover a project that inspires your next build.
Four Benches, Four Different Ways to Build
We'll be bringing four interactive stations to the show, each focused on a different corner of the maker ecosystem.
Edge AI with the Synaptics Coral Platform
AI is everywhere right now, but seeing it run directly on embedded hardware is still pretty magical.
We'll have a demo built around the new, not yet available to the public, Synaptics Coral platform, giving attendees a chance to experience AI running at the edge and explore what modern embedded machine learning hardware can do.
Whether you're curious about computer vision, AI-assisted robotics, or edge inference, this is a great place to start asking questions.
XRP Robotics Playground
Few things attract a crowd faster than a robot.
The XRP platform has become one of our favorite ways to introduce robotics concepts to students, educators, FIRST teams, and makers. At OpenSauce, you'll have the chance to check out various XRP robots as well as the AgXRP while learning how accessible robotics development has become.

A Modular Soldering Station Built by and for Makers
Every maker eventually develops strong opinions about their workspace.
Aaron Rollens, one of DigiKey's resident makers, designed a modular soldering workstation that helps keep tools organized, accessible, and adaptable to different projects. At the show, you'll be able to check out the setup in person and see how thoughtful workstation design can improve the prototyping experience.
You may even leave with a few ideas for upgrading your own bench.
New Development Boards Worth Checking Out
Let's be honest—many of us can't walk past a new development board without stopping to see what it can do.
We'll be bringing a collection of interesting platforms and hardware that have caught our attention recently, including emerging technologies, maker-friendly development boards, and projects that showcase what's possible with today's tools.
If you enjoy discovering the next board you'll inevitably add to your workbench, this area is for you.

One of the best parts of OpenSauce is getting to talk directly with the people creating projects, videos, and tutorials that inspire the community.
On Saturday and Sunday, we're hosting meet-and-greet sessions with:
- Becky Stern at 11am
- Zach Hipps (Byte Sized Engineering) at 12pm
- Odd Jayy at 1pm
- Shawn Hymel at 2 pm (Saturday Only)
Come say hello, ask questions, swap project ideas, and talk about the things you've been building.

At the end of the day, OpenSauce isn't really about products.
It's about people sharing ideas, learning from each other, and discovering something new that sparks the next project.
